Judging - NYC Podcast Awards 2027 | How LIBBYs Are Won
How we judge

Excellence through expert review.

The NYC Podcast Awards runs a rigorous, three-round judging process built to find and celebrate the very best in audio storytelling. Our panel of academics, industry professionals, and cultural influencers brings diverse perspectives from across the medium, and after a full first season of LIBBYs, they know exactly what excellence sounds like. Every submission gets a fair, comprehensive listen.

The three-round process

Three rounds, no shortcuts.

1

Screening

Nov 15, 2026 - Jan 10, 2027

All entries are reviewed for eligibility and distributed to category-specific judging panels based on expertise. Judge anonymity is maintained during this round to protect the integrity of the process.

2

Evaluation

Jan 10 - Jan 25, 2027

Multiple judges score each entry using detailed rubrics covering technical excellence, creativity, impact, and category standards. Where possible, evaluation is blind to creator identity.

3

Deliberation

Nominees Feb 4, 2027

Top entries advance to the final round, where judges discuss nuances and select winners through collaborative review. Winners are revealed at the ceremony on March 12, 2027.

Evaluation criteria

Four lenses on every entry.

Technical Excellence

Production quality, sound design, editing, and technical execution that enhances the listening experience.

Creativity

Originality of concept, unique storytelling approach, and innovative use of the audio medium.

Impact

Ability to connect with audiences, emotional resonance, and effectiveness in achieving the work's purpose.

Category Standards

Achievement of excellence specific to hosting, acting, writing, or genre-specific storytelling.

The panel

Invitation only, on purpose.

Judges are selected by invitation, curating diverse perspectives across academia, industry professionals, and cultural influencers who champion underrepresented voices in audio storytelling.

Conflict of Interest

Judges recuse themselves from evaluating any submission where they have personal or professional connections to the creators.

Blind Evaluation

Where possible, judges evaluate submissions without knowledge of creator identity to minimize bias.

Multiple Reviewers

Each entry is reviewed by multiple judges to ensure consistent and fair evaluation. Individual judges are highlighted publicly during round three.

Nominate a judge

Positions are by invitation, but nominations from the community are welcome, and the Judging Academy opens applications this fall. Know someone with the ears and the credentials? Tell us. Self-nominations are absolutely allowed.

The 2027 season

Think your work can take the scrutiny?

That's the spirit. Judging this rigorous is exactly what makes a LIBBY worth winning.
